Energy Transfer’s Hugh Brinson project is a Waha-to-North-Texas gas header with a Midland Lateral. Energy Transfer LP (the company still often called Energy Transfer Partners) took FID in December 2024 on the Hugh Brinson natural gas pipeline: about 400 miles of 42-inch pipe from the Waha hub toward Maypearl, Texas, south of Dallas–Fort Worth, with a 42-mile, 36-inch Midland Lateral into Martin and Midland Counties. Oil & Gas Journal reported those design figures June 8, 2026 — Phase I about 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, Phase 2 compression toward about 2.2 Bcf/d, project cost about $2.7 billion — in a wider Permian takeaway piece that also tracked Waha congestion and other pipes.

Energy Transfer’s second-quarter 2026 materials later said Hugh Brinson was in commercial service and expected to be capable of the full Phase I 1.5 Bcf/d by Sept. 1, 2026, with an Abilene lateral ready as well. That is a midstream in-service story. It is not a posted price for minerals in Midland County.

Why takeaway headlines show up next to mineral deeds

When associated gas has nowhere to go, Waha prints ugly numbers and operators talk about completions, flaring, and “waiting on pipe.” When a header like Hugh Brinson starts to flow, the same operators talk about remaining laterals again. Buyers translating that into a Friday deadline on an inherited tract are doing sales, not pipeline engineering. A new residue line does not convey your oil and mineral rights.

The Midland Lateral is the geographic tell: Martin and Midland processing plants tying into a northbound gas header. If you own minerals or a Royalty deed / NPRI under those counties, you may see more gas in the mix of a royalty check, or more mail from someone assembling acres next to plants. Read the granting clause. Then look at the Midland basin sell page and the oil and gas map.

Listing news is a different Energy Transfer story

The partnership also said in September 2026 it would move its unit listing from the NYSE to the Texas Stock Exchange in Dallas. That write-up is Energy Transfer is switching to the Dallas stock exchange. A Dallas ticker and a Waha-to-Maypearl pipe are both Energy Transfer. Neither one is you selling minerals.

Source and what we are not saying

Design and basin context come from OGJ’s June 8, 2026 Permian takeaway report. In-service comments come from Energy Transfer’s second-quarter 2026 public materials, not from a Mineral Vertex data room. This page is a mineral-owner rewrite, not a copy of OGJ. It is not investment advice about ET, not a forecast of Waha prices, and not legal advice. Mineral Vertex buys minerals and matches owners with buyers. We do not promise to beat every letter.
